| The
Owl Box is a delight. Situated deep in the countryside, down a very
quiet country lane in the tiny hamlet of Throop, this is a Grade II listed, detached, thatched, brick and cob barn which has been expertly converted into a small cottage.
The location is ideal for walkers and cyclists, who can use the
network of footpaths and cycle routes and there is good chalk stream
fishing on the nearby River Piddle. The South Dorset beaches at Lulworth Cove, Ringstead Bay and Kimmeridge are some 8-10 miles away
and the Isle of Purbeck a little further. For keen birdwatchers, a
large number of migrating birds pass through the area and barn owls are
resident on the adjoining farmland. This part of Dorset also has a
number of interesting stately homes and museums to visit, such as
Athelhampton, Hardy's Cottage and Cloud's Hill (both National Trust),
Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum. Throop is about 12 miles from
Blandford and Dorchester and about 2 hours' drive from London. Special features of The Owl Box are its spacious, galleried
open plan living room, original beams and timber cladding. These are
combined with a high degree of comfort and modern convenience.
Comments from a visitor to The Owl Box.
" I wanted to let you know that we had the loveliest weekend in The
Owl Box, Briantspuddle. It is quaint, cute, warm and cosy - everything
you need for a weekend in cold (but sunny) February!
The village must be featured on a chocolate box somewhere - masses of
thatch. It even has a wonderful pig, which enjoyed an illicit apple or
two whenever we passed by...
Thank you for yet another super holiday home. We are thinking of going back in the autumn to explore further."
