| This
is a truly delightful cob and thatch cottage set in its own large,
enclosed garden, down a very quiet country lane close to the village of
Buckland Newton in Dorset's Piddle Valley.
The cottage is equidistant from the medieval town of Sherborne,
with its abbey, castle and numerous antique shops and from the county
town of Dorchester. The surrounding countryside shows Dorset at its
best - high downland contrasted with more sheltered, wooded combes and
many pretty small villages which are a delight to discover. A local
curiosity is the Cerne Abbas Giant, carved out of the chalk on the
hillside which dominates the village of Cerne Abbas below. Much of the
area is featured in Thomas Hardys novels including Buckland Newton
itself, which is referred to as Newland Buckton. To the south a
spectacular stretch of the South Dorset coastline from Lyme Regis to
Swanage is within easy driving distance.
Thatched Cottage is some 300 years old and has undergone extensive
refurbishment and restoration by its current owners. It now offers very
comfortable, spacious family accommodation with excellent facilities,
carefully chosen colour schemes and tasteful furnishings.
