Prides Cottage is everything that you might imagine an 18th century, thatched cottage to be. Grade II listed and now restored with the utmost care by its new owners, it retains much of its original character yet offers all the creature comforts that you would expect to find in well equipped holiday accommodation. The cottage is situated in Child Okeford’s pretty village street, a stone’s throw from the Post Office Stores and not much further from one of the two village pubs. The village lies in the valley of the River Stour in a particularly attractive part of rural Dorset with Hambledon Hill, a spectacular Iron Age Hill Fort rising steeply above the village to the east. The immediate surrounding area is superb walking country with stunning views from the chalk ridges, Bulbarrow Hill being 900 feet above sea level. Also within easy driving distance are the Cranborne Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and of course Dorset’s World Heritage, Jurassic coastline, with Bournemouth, Poole’s huge natural harbour and the Isle of Purbeck all being conveniently accessible. For further sightseeing and shopping, the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury and the Georgian market town of Blandford Forum cater for most needs. Child Okeford itself is exceptionally well provided for, with two village shops, an organic farm shop, two pubs, a weekly fish & chip van, Health & Beauty Salon, even an art gallery, which promotes the work of contemporary artists. Comments from previous visitors "Had a fantastic weekend. Great attention to detail, which made it seem like home from home. Fabulous and relaxing - many thanks." Amy Baker, April 2009.
