Blagdon
Hill occupies a superb position situated high on the South Dorset
Ridgeway which runs along the Dorset coastline. Built some 40 years
ago, it offers spacious and comfortable family accommodation and has
the added attraction of an indoor heated swimming pool (approximately 4 x 8 metres), which adjoins a sun lounge.
The house enjoys all round scenic views and is situated only 400 yards
from the inland coast path and only half a mile from Hardy's Monument
(commemorating Nelson's flag captain, Sir Thomas Hardy), a 70 ft.
octagonal tower which stands on Blackdown Hill and which can be seen
for miles around. From here there are stunning views which stretch from
the Needles on the Isle of Wight to Start Point in South Devon.
Within easy driving distance on the South Dorset coast are
Abbotsbury (3 miles), famous for its Swannery, Chesil beach and
sub-tropical gardens, Weymouth (6 miles) which has a huge variety of
attractions and events throughout the year and the Isle of Portland
with its medieval castle, shipwreck centre and museum. Further east and
west, Ringstead Bay, Lulworth Cove and Bridport are also easily
accessible. Looking inland, Blagdon Hill is a short distance from
Maiden Castle, a huge iron age fort, 4 miles from Dorchester, a Roman
town with an excellent museum and river walks, and a mile and a half
from the village of Martinstown.
